Meet Innopharma
We are a multidisciplinary research entity formed by trans-departmental groups providing early drug discovery services and performing basic and applied research.
Starting in 1998 and based at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) since 2005, we have grown to what now is a team of more than 35 members working across two main areas:
- the Cellular Biology division, located at the School of Biology,
- and the Pharmacology division, housed in the CIMUS building (Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases).
Operating within this academic environment allows us to work closely with valuable teams, such as the Dr. Ángel Carracedo Genomic Medicine Group. This collaboration enables us to integrate pharmacogenomics into early drug development, helping to prevent late-stage trial failures.

Accomplishments
Our consolidated scientific track record and translational research, combined with our high-tech facilities and strong commitment to advancing drug development and patient well-being, have enabled us to:
- Become one of the eight European high-capacity screening centers within the ERIC-EU-OPENSCREEN infrastructure.
- Discover 17 new chemical entities that have progressed to clinical trials.
- Build a proprietary chemical library of more than 120 000 compounds.
- Establish the Kaertor Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering reciprocal knowledge transfer in drug discovery.
- Create the public-private ESTEVE-USC Mixed Unit to co-develop new drugs for chronic pain treatment.
- The creation of two spin-offs.
- Actively participate in the development and coordination of Spanish networks for open innovation in early drug discovery.
Alongside our independent projects, we maintain a strong track record of collaborative public-private research with academic institutions, biotech firms, and the pharmaceutical industry.
